October is indisputably the best month to experience all southeastern Oklahoma has to offer. The threat of spring storms is a distant memory, the heat and humidity of summer is mercifully over, and the cold winds of winter have yet to blow in snow and ice storms.

The halcyon days of October with its mild temperatures, crisp air, clean air and kaleidoscope of yellow, rust, burgundy and red foliage are the perfect time for day trips, weekend get-away or extended stays. When making plans to attend Hartshorne's Hard Times Festival allow yourself an extra day or two to revel in the beauty and tranquility of the season.

Robbers Cave State Park, is located approximately 20 miles from Hartshorne and five miles north of Wilburton, Oklahoma on SH-2, offers something for the camper, RVer, tenter and equestrian as well as for those who prefer a less rustic approach to vacationing.

Camping: 122 modern, semi-modern, and unimproved campsites. All offer comfort stations with showers.

RV: 11 modern and 30 semi-modern sites, and 25 semi-modern sites at the Equestrian Camp.

Tent and Equestrian: 45 unimproved sites, and 10 primitive sites.

Cabins: 26 cabins, 18 one-bedroom (sleeps up to four) and 8 two-bedroom (accommodates up to six) with fireplaces and kitchens. Linen, cookware, dishes, eating utensils and cleaning supplies furnished.

Lodge: 20 rooms that may be reserved up to a year in advance. Rooms are hotel-type and will sleep four.

Facilities at the Park include a cafe, stables and on-site horse rentals.

Wilburton Inn & Suites, is located at 605 West Main in Wilburton, Oklahoma, approximately 15 miles from Hartshorne on SH 270. The newly constructed motel offers 32 rooms and 4 kitchenettes with HBO/cable TV, truck parking, and a pool.

Windsong Inn, is a privately owned bed and breakfast located at 100 West Cedar, Wilburton, Oklahoma. Accommodations include 7 rooms, 6 with private baths, sitting room, fireplaces, cable TV, full breakfast and snacks.

Hiway Inn & Suites, is located in McAlester, Oklahoma at 419 South George Nigh Expressway (HWY 69) approximately 17 miles from Hartshorne. The establishment offers 109 rooms with an economy section as well as executive suites. All rooms have a microwave and refrigerator. Some rooms have kitchenettes. There is a restaurant on the premises and an outdoor pool.

Super 8 Motel RV Park, is located 2 miles south of North Business/69 and Intersection 270 in McAlester, Oklahoma. Amenities include showers, dump, laundry, pool, RV supplies, tents, security. There are 50 sites: 12 pull-through, 38 back-ins, big rig sites, 9 paved, 41 gravel, grass and shaded; 40 full hookups, 40 30-amp hookups, 2 50-amp hookups, electric, water, sewer, city water.
